Scene from Mozart's opera Don Giovanni 1787 (c1914). Opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Austrian composer, first performed in Prague in 1787. The libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte (1749-1838) was based on Moliere's play of 1665 Don Juan, ou le festin de Pierre (Don Juan, or the Stone Banquet). Here Don Giovanni is attempting to seduce Zerlina, a country girl to whom he sings Give me thy hand, oh fairest (La ci darem la mano). From A Day With Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by May Byron. (London, c1914).
bird, gull, seagull, black-headed gull, lake, nature, Grasmere, Lake District, England
One of several shots taken of a gull sitting at the end of a fence in Grasmere. This was done in April 2009 and I was attracted to the subject because of its bright appearance against the dark background of the lake.
The Herring Gull is a common site around our beaches and seaside holiday resorts, but now its numbers are slowly in decline due to many people regarding this fine species as more of a pest than a pleasure.
