Description
The Tiverton Grand Western Canal construction was first started in 1810, it is 18km (11 miles) in lentgh. It Links Tiverton to Taunton. In The original plan's it was used extensively to convey limeston from the quarries at Westleigh to Tiverton. In the Late 60's A campaign was started to save the Canal from development.This led to it's acquisition by Devon County Council. In 1971 it was declared a country Park Then in 2005 a Local nature reserve. Today you can take a trip along the Canal on a Horse Drawn Barge.(One of only four of its kind in Great Britain today) or you can walk or Cycle along the Tow path
