He was an officer in the British Indian army and he discovered both Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria. Lake Tanganyika is located at the junction of 4 African countries;- Burundi, Congo, Tanzania; and Zambia - with most of the lake being in Congo and Tanzania. Lake Victoria covers parts of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
