NEPAL Near Bhajura -- 26 Sep 2007 -- Staff from OHCHR-Nepal and UNMIN Civil Affairs on a joint trip to Bhajura - a remote district 500km west of Kathmandu - to meet local government and civil society. In the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the Nepali political parties requested OHCHR-Nepal to monitor the human rights aspects of the Agreement, and OHCHR-Nepal focus this monitoring work in the districts. Non-military aspects of the ceasefire arrangements are conducted by UNMIN's Civil Affairs officers, who liaise with State and non-State actors. Suffragette Emily Davison killed herself by running under the hooves of the King's horse, Anmer, at the Epsom Derby of 1913. The incident is seen here in an enlargement of a photo supplied to the book 'The Pageant of the Century', published in 1933, by S&G. The photographer is not credited. There is no information available about who S&G were, but Clarke & Hyde, who supplied other photos for the book, were a press agency at the time. No further information is available about them. This picture is much enlarged from the full, wider, shot which appeared two years later in 'The Story of Twenty-five Years', published to mark the silver jubilee of King George V. Emily died in hospital four days later and both jockey and horse were injured. The incident is seen here in a photo originally published in the Daily Sketch and supplied in 1935 to a booklet published by the department store Palmers, of Broadway, Hammersmith, to mark the silver jubilee of King George V. Pankhurst, founder of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), was a controversial figure in the campaign to get women the right to vote because of the militant tactics she supported.
