A popular visitor attraction in north Essex, a mute swan, on the River Stour, Mistley, Essex, seen between the river's edge and the through road, The Walls, where many swans, geese, ducks and other birds are fed by people. Speeding cars kill several swans each year and notices along the road ask people to feed the birds in the river and not on the grass where many swans walk across the road. The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae. One of hundreds of mute swans (Cygnus olor) and other birds which can be seen at all times of year. On the opposite side of the road running alongside the river, is Mistley Park Farm which has many farm animals and a popular cafe.

On 19 May 2006, the 105,000 ton luxury cruise liner, was diverted from Dover to Harwich International Port because of high winds in Dover Harbour. Conditions on the River Stour estuary were also windy as seen by the dramatic clouds and choppy water.

On 16 May 2006, the 105,000 ton luxury cruise ship Costa Magica was diverted from Dover to Harwich because of high winds in Dover Harbour. The liner is seen moored at Harwich International Port with an RAF search and rescue Sea King helicopter taking a look. Harwich lies on the estuary of the River Stour in north east Essex.
