Swan and ducks are the only activity on the River Stour at Dedham at the end of October 2010. All the hire boats are moored up at the end of the summer season. The hut in the background is a popular cafe.

A popular visitor attraction in north Essex, a mute swan, on the River Stour, Mistley, Essex, seen between the river's edge and the through road, The Walls, where many swans, geese, ducks and other birds are fed by people. Speeding cars kill several swans each year and notices along the road ask people to feed the birds in the river and not on the grass where many swans walk across the road. The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae. One of hundreds of mute swans (Cygnus olor) and other birds which can be seen at all times of year. On the opposite side of the road running alongside the river, is Mistley Park Farm which has many farm animals and a popular cafe.

Dredger, 'Landguard' at work in the estuaries of the Rivers Stour and Orwell, off Harwich, Essex and Felixstowe, Suffolk in the 1960s. In those days Harwich, Parkeston Quay was a busier port than Felixstowe. Now, the Port of Felixstowe is the UKs largest container port and Harwich International Port is the UK end of ferry routes, including the one to the Hook of Holland served by the two Super Ferries, 'Stena Britannica' and 'Stena Hollandica'.

On 19 May 2006, the 105,000 ton luxury cruise liner, was diverted from Dover to Harwich International Port because of high winds in Dover Harbour. Conditions on the River Stour estuary were also windy as seen by the dramatic clouds and choppy water.

The liner is seen moored at Harwich International Port with an RAF search and rescue Sea King helicopter taking a look. Harwich lies on the estuary of the River Stour in north east Essex.

Mistley Towers, along the River Stour Estuary about a mile from Manningtree, have been a tourist attraction for many years. They were built in 1776 as an extension to Mistley Thorn Church, which was built in 1735 and demolished around 1870 when the present church was built.
