A sign of the times. A noticeboard describing a countryside stewardship scheme is left thrown down, damaged and abandoned. The fate of many schemes once the initial enthusiasm has gone.

Description
SS Richard Montgomery sank in 1944 in the Thames estuary carrying bombs and munitions for Allied forces. The wreck still contains around 1500 tons of TNT and opinions differ as to whether the explosive is still active. If it did explode it would cause widespread devastation, principally to the town of Sheerness. The wreck also lies close to what would be the flight path to the proposed new airport on the Isle of Grain.
