John Hanning Speke was a 19th-century British explorer who attempted to find the source of the Nile. He was an officer in the British Indian army and he discovered both Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria. Lake Tanganyika is located at the junction of 4 African countries;- Burundi, Congo, Tanzania; and Zambia - with most of the lake being in Congo and Tanzania. Lake Victoria covers parts of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
