The Days' Doings, 4 November 1871 - An Illustrated and Amusing Record of Passing Events. Cremorne Gardens were popular pleasure gardens by the side of the River Thames in Chelsea, London. The illustration ridicules "the sanctimonious guys of the past season who tried to burke the amusements of the people". Cremorne lost its license because of "a few bigoted and interested persons that pretend the cannot sleep at night on account of the noise created by the cab traffic from Cremorne".

Description
The tradition of the Tar Barrel goes back hundreds of years,How exectly it started is unknown, but it is thought to of started after the Gun powder plot of 1605. Some alternative idea suggest barrels where burnt to fumigate cottages. Another is as a warning of the approach of the Spanish Armada- This annuel tradition where barrels are rolled in the streets on November 5th each year has been followed by many town's in the west country, but the town of Ottery St Mary is thought to be the only one that decided a long the line That rolling was tame so the tradition of carring the barrels on your shoulder was born. On the day seventeen barrels are carried through the town, ranging in size from small (boy's barrels)mediam for the women and youth to "gert big umz" for the men!
