The inscription on the plaque reads :- This Mill was erected in a time of Scarcity By Voluntary Subscription For the common Benefit of the Neighbourhood. AD 1800, There is a line at the bottom in script which is Latin and I cannot read it at present -- will update if I ever manage it!!!

This is a view of Burnham Overy lower Mill, built early in the 19th Century over the river Burn as part of a milling complex, Burnham Overy higher mill is a windmill about 1/4 away. By the 1890's the watermill was running 3 pairs of stones, it had a Cornish boiler and beam engine running 4 pairs of stones and the windmill also ran 3 pairs of stones. Also owned by the miller, Mr John Savory was about 40 acres of land which was farmed, mostly cattle.The windmill ceased production in 1919 and the watermill in 1939 when ownership passed to the national trust. The remains of St.Mary's church, within the grounds of St. John the Baptist church yard in the village of Stiffkey on the North Norfolk Coast, UK. Believed to have been constructed on the 14th or 15th century.
The old hall built for the Bess of Hardwick by the earl of Shrewsbury in 1991,was then abandoned to the elements in 1597 to become a ruin,The new Harwick hall was then built in the grounds,which stands to this day.
