"Moby Dick" was a tourist attraction at Morecambe in the sixties. She was built in 1887 at Glasson Dock and named Ryelands, The schooner was used in the China clay trade between the wars, then worked in the Bristol Channel, until she was purchased by the film industry and appeared in Treasure Island (1950) as the Hispaniola. She did a brief stint as a tourist attraction called the Hispanioquarium in Scarborough before appearing as Pequod in the movie, Moby Dick (1954). In the sixties she was moored here, off the Central Promenade in Morecambe. You could board and look around for one shilling (adult) or sixpence (child), until she was destroyed in moments by fire on 17 June 1970

Dick Turpin (1706-1739) English robber and highwayman. Subject of many romantic stories especially that of his ride to York on his mare Black Bess. Here he is giving the exhausted horse a potion to revive her. 19th century colour-printed wood engraving.

Religious houses ran the earliest true inns to cater for pilgrims and knights on their way to the Crusades in the Holy Land. Even after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th Century, some of the names denoting religious connections survived, such as the Mitre, the Ship (symbolising the Ark) and the Anchor (the Christian faith). The "Olde Ship" is a veritable sea museum -The scrubbed wooden foor is constructed from pine ships decking, while the walls are festooned with a wide variety of nautical artifacts, model fishing boats and a replica of Seahouses' lifeboat, The 'Grace Darling'. Figure heads, diving helmets, pulling oars, fish baskets, branding irons, Lamps, all add to the unique 'feel' of circumstances that was only too prevalent many years ago.
The Dunston pillar Landlight house sits at the side of the A15 Lincolnshire and was built Sir Francis Dashwood (founder of the hellfire club).The pillar is a land lighthouse to protect agaisnt higway men e,g Dick Turpin.
