St Andrew's, Worcester, The Glover's Needle, erected, 1757, 18th century, IPSV0772
Description
St Andrew's Only the tower and spire of this church remain. The spire is particularly fine and is known locally as "The Glover's Needle" due to its shape and Worcester's association with the glove making industry. It is exceptionally slender and is reputed to be the tallest in the country with such a narrow angle of taper. In recent years, the spire has become famous for being home to a nest of Peregrine Falcons. The council are so proud of this that a webcam has been installed at the top of the tower, allowing a view into the daily lives of these beautiful birds.
