Hill, Somerset marshes, flatlands, lowlands, church, Southlake Moor, Burrowbridge
Description
The Mump is natural and was used in Roman and Norman times as a defensive site. The ruined church of St Michael, which tops the Mump today, was an attempt, in 1793, to build a parish church. However, the effort ran out of funds and a chuch was built at the foot of the Mump instead. In 1946, the Mump was presented to the National Trust who continue to look after its preservation.

Description
The medieaval Church of St Micheal stands on top of the natural stone hill of Burrow Mump and makes an impressive landmark amongst the flat expanses of the Somerset Levels. An attempt to rebuild the church in 1793 failed due to unstable foundations and a failure to secure enough funding.
