Description
This fountain commemorates Dr James Trotter (1843-1899) who came to Bedlington from Scotland in 1864 and practised as a doctor with his brother at nearby Choppington. He particularly championed the cause of local miners and helped in the election to Parliament of the miners' leader Thomas Burt. He is buried in Kells, Galloway. One of Bedlington's pits, Doctor's Pit, was named after him
