NEPAL Near Bhajura -- 26 Sep 2007 -- Staff from OHCHR-Nepal and UNMIN Civil Affairs on a joint trip to Bhajura - a remote district 500km west of Kathmandu - to meet local government and civil society. In the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the Nepali political parties requested OHCHR-Nepal to monitor the human rights aspects of the Agreement, and OHCHR-Nepal focus this monitoring work in the districts. Non-military aspects of the ceasefire arrangements are conducted by UNMIN's Civil Affairs officers, who liaise with State and non-State actors. NEPAL Near Chitwan -- 07 Sep 2007 -- Members of the Maoist Army in Chitwan (100km south west of Kathmandu) being trained by mine action experts from Armor Group, who were contracted by UNMIN to train Maoist personnel in destruction of explosive devices. Obligations of the Maoist Army under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement ( CPA ) include safe storage of IEDs at designated sites, and agreeing a timeline with the UN for destruction of all IEDs and explosives.
