Puffins, Fratercula arctica (the Atlantic puffin) on the point of take-off. The featured puffin has caught some sand eels and landed on the cliff top for a few seconds before heading on to its nesting burrow.

Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) in flight above the Farne Islands off the Northumberland Coast. Sometimes called a sea parrot this bird has been photographed in it's breeding season plumage.

Puffin landing sequence - four images captured in quick succession of the same puffin as it approaches its landing point. The elapsed time between the 1st and final image was 1.3 seconds. The frames frames were blended in photoshop.
Puffin describes any of three auk species (or alcids) in the bird genus Fratercula with a brightly colored beak in the breeding season. These are pelagic seabirds that feed primarily by diving.
