James Boswell (1740-1795), Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774) and Dr Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), talking and drinking in the Mitre Tavern in Fleet Street. Basing a date from their years of birth and death, this would appear to be around 1760 and the drinks are probably claret. From an uncredited contemporary print reproduced in a 1930 book.
