A line of cockle boats lies along a muddy creek at low tide at Leigh-on-Sea. The beds of discarded shells on top of the mud can be seen. Shellfish were popular at the nearby holiday resort of Southend-on-Sea and in East London and these boats caught forms such as cockles, winkles and shrimps.

Replacing a fireclay furnace pot at Whitefriars Glassworks, London UK. The pre-heated pot has been placed in the furnace, and wet fireclay is being packed into the gaps. This dangerous job is being done by men who have drenched their clothes with water to prevent smoldering.

Fishing at the end of Clacton Pier in early October at the end of the holiday season. High tide with a high wind behind it does not deter the anglers with four lines in this picture. The high wind is also good for the wind generators at Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm on the horizon about 7km off the coast - producing enough electricity to power 125,000 homes. There are 48 generators in total.
