    Description
A Maya student of the 3,000-year-old Maya Ballgame at the Juego del Sol school, Quintana Roo, Mexico, practices lobbing an eight pound natural rubber ball, with his hip, through the stone ring that bears an image of the Maya deity, K'uk'ulkan, on the second stone Maya Ballcourt built since the Spanish Conquest of the 1500s. It is believed that the rubber ball represented the Sun, the ballplayers the planets, and the stone ballcourt ring the portal to the Underworld and the game was a contest between death and rebirth, light and dark, good and evil.
