    Description
Poppies at Fontmell Down, Dorset. Hundreds of drivers have been stopping their cars to take photographs after the poppy seeds, which are understood to have been lying dormant for years, emerged after the field was ploughed and they flourished in the unseasonally warm weather. September was generally a dry month, according to the Met Office. Most of the country received well below half the monthly average of 100.4mm of rain with some parts receiving less than a fifth of the usual rain. It was estimated to have been the driest September in England since 1997.
