A highlight in the history of the Bochum railway museum was the large vehicle show put on in 1985 as part of the 150th anniversary of the German railways. The first electric passenger train was presented by Werner von Siemens at Berlin in 1879 consisted of the locomotive and three cars reached a maximum speed of 13 km/h. During four months the train carried 90,000 passengers on a 300 meter long circular track. The electricity was supplied through a third isolated rail situated between the tracks. A stationary dynamo nearby provided the electricity.

Description
A highlight in the history of the Bochum railway museum was the large vehicle show put on in 1985 as part of the 150th anniversary of the German railways. This strange looking locomotive No.98 307 was built in the early years of the 20th Century and designed for one man operation, using a sophisticated semi-automatic stoking mechanism. It was used mainly to haul light trains on short branch lines. It remained in service until 1963.

Description
Until the opening of the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line, the Left Rhine line was one of the busiest in Germany. The fastest trains connecting the Rhineland and southern Germany ran on the line. The importance of the line for long distance travel has diminished since the opening of the high-speed line. The line is now generally used by one InterCity or Intercity-Express service (stopping at Bonn, Koblenz and Mainz) each hour, one Regional-Express train each hour (the Rhein-Express) and one RegionalBahn (stopping) train each hour in each direction, as well as by freight trains. Before the opening of the high-speed line, freight trains were largely restricted to the Right Rhine line, but with the increased availability of train paths on the Left Rhine line many of them are now routed over it.

Description
The Adler (German for "Eagle") was a British-built, German steam locomotive with the wheel arrangement 2-2-2 (Whyte notation) or 1A1 (UIC classification), and was the first locomotive to run successfully in Germany. It was built to order in 1835 by the British railway pioneers George and Robert Stephenson and delivered to the Bavarian Ludwigsbahn (Bayerische Ludwigsbahn) which ran between Nuremberg and Fürth. It ran for the first time there on 7 December 1835. The Adler was furnished with a tender of the type 2 T 2. To celebrate the centenary of the railways in Germany in 1935 a replica of the Adler was built by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the Kaiserslautern repair shop (Ausbesserungswerk), which was largely true to the original. In 1984 it was rebuilt for the 150th anniversary by the Deutsche Bundesbahn in the Offenburg repair shop and took part in numerous events across Germany.

The G 3 standard locomotives were, in their day the standard goods train locomotives with the Prussian state railways. In 1905 the Prussian state railways grouped six-coupled, medium-powered, goods train, tank locomotives into its Class G 3. In addition to standard locomotives, there were also 285 G 3s that were not built to German state railway norms, because they had been built, in most cases, before the foundation of the Prussian state railways. Ordered in 1946 by GWR from Swiss company Brown Boveri et Cie but delivered to British Railways in 1949 after nationalisation. Many maintenance and reliability problems resulted in withdrawal in late 1960. The unique power unit was removed many years ago and it is not likely to be possible to return the locomotive to original condition.
