The South Common is a large area of common land that lies on the southeastern boundary of Lincoln, bridging the gap between the built-up area of the city, it’s nearby settlements of Canwick and Bracebridge Heath, and the agricultural fields beyond. Habitats of the area include semi natural grassland and scrub and plantations, hosting a variety of wildlife and plants. South Common plant species include Adder’s Tongue, Opium Poppy, Meadow Saxifrage and Devil’s Bit Scabious, which is becoming quite rare in the county. The high ridge to the east of the site emphasises the dramatic sweep of the Common and the sense of separation from the land beyond.
