The fully restored 1939 prototype London AEC RT bus (RT1) emerging from the Cobham workshops for the public launch in April 2009, of the campaign to raise funds to keep this iconic vehicle in Britain, which was organised by the London Bus Preservation Trust based at Cobham Bus Museum. The £150,000 RT1 Appeal was successful and prevented it from being sold abroad, so preserving it as part of the national heritage.

Description
A line-up of AEC Routemasters seen at a Bus Rally in 2009. Nearest the camera is RM5 (nominal date: 1959) wearing the standard London Transport Central bus livery of the '60s. The AEC Routemaster double-decker bus of London Transport was a highly regarded and iconic part of the London street scene for more than forty years, and is now an equally loved and familiar presence at Heritage Vehicle rallies and shows. Of advanced integral construction, the 'RM' had separate front and rear mechanical units which were mounted under a rigidly built 'monocoque' body. During overhaul these units would be switched several times between different vehicles and so it is difficult to randomly date a Routemaster exactly, (with a handful of exceptions) beyond the period in which that particular model was being built, ie:in this case (RM5) 1959-65 for the standard 27.5ft model. Most RMs were powered by the AEC AV590 9.6 litre diesel, with around a fifth powered by the Leyland 0.600 9.8 litre, and a smaller number powered by the AEC AV690 11.3 litre engine.

Description
A familiar sight at Heritage vehicle rallies is RCL2233, a former Green-Line/London Country Routemaster coach. The RCL was a 30ft version of the standard Central red Routemaster bus with a much higher level of interior trim and seating. With different gearing, and 11.3 litre AEC AV690 engines they were used on very long inter-London routes, affording travellers a very high standard of comfort.

Description
This 1945 Guy Arab II Utility Wartime London Transport G-type Double-Decker Bus was seen at a Cobham Bus Museum event at Wisley Airfield. G351 is powered by a Gardner 5LW diesel engine, has a Park-Royal 56-seat body, and is typical of the few new vehicles released during the austerity, for use all over the country. It was withdrawn in 1952 after only seven years service, mainly due to the disappointing durability level of sub-standard materials available during the war.

Description
This 1967 AEC Renown low-height double-decker bus was originally operated by the City of Oxford Motor Services, and is seen at a rally at Kidlington near Oxford. It was one of only four with Northern Counties bodies, and was the last Renown built. It is owned and was restored by the Oxford Bus Museum. The Renown was designed as a solution to the height problem, which had always been an issue in areas with low bridges, especially in Oxford. The ultra-low slung chassis allowed a normal central upper-deck gangway whereas previously buses had conventional chassis which required a sunken offside gangway in order to achieve low overall height, usually about 13ft 3ins..

Description
The MCW Metrobus is a double decker bus model manufactured by MCW (Metro Cammell Weymann) from 1977 until 1989, with over 4,000 examples built. The original MkI model was superseded by the MkII model (which had a symmetrical windscreen) in 1981/1982, although production of the original MkI continued for London Transport until 1985. The Metrobus was conceived as an integral product manufactured completely by MCW, but Alexander and Northern Counties also bodied some examples.
