Chorthippus parallelus, the meadow grasshopper, is a common species of grasshopper found in non-arid grasslands throughout the well vegetated areas of Europe. Females grow to approximately 2 cm and are larger and less active than males that grow to approximately 1.5 cm. Both sexes are flightless. In females the wing cases (covering vestigial wings) extend only a short way down the abdomen while males have longer wing cases extending to almost the tip of the abdomen

Description
The pallid-winged grasshopper (Trimerotropis pallidipennis) is a common grasshopper of the family Acrididae, native to the deserts of western North America from British Columbia to Argentina.[2] They are more active during the summer months, and their pale, mottled coloration makes them hard to see against surfaces such as the granite often found in the gravel of dry river beds.[3] They grow to be 37 millimetres (1.5 in).

The Meadow Brown is one of our commonest and most widespread butterflies, and a familiar site throughout the summer months across the British Isles. This is a highly variable species, particularly with respect to the amount of orange on the forewings and the number of black spots found on the underside of the hindwings. This individual is backlit by the sun whilst resting in a meadow.
