Rouen Cathedral, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, is a Roman Catholic Gothic cathedral in Rouen, in northwestern France. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Rouen and Normandy. The spire was destroyed by lightning in 1822. The cathedral was named the tallest building (the lantern tower with the cast iron spire of the 19th century) in the world (151 m) from 1876 to 1880. The Portail des Calendes famous for its rich ornamentation, was completed in the first quarter of the fourteenth century and is the entrance to the north transept of the cathedral
