Charlottenburg Palace is today's largest residence of the royal house of Hohenzollern in Germany's capital Berlin. The magnificent building is surrounded by unique Baroque gardens featuring various architectural styles. The palace includes magnificently furnished chambers and ballrooms with exclusive art collections. It is located in the Charlottenburg district of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf burough. The palace was built at the end of the 17th century and was greatly expanded during the 18th century. It includes much exotic internal decoration in baroque and rococo styles. A large formal garden surrounded by woodland was constructed behind the palace. In the grounds of the palace various buildings were erected, including a belvedere, a mausoleum, a theatre and a pavilion. During the Second World War the palace was badly damaged but has since been reconstructed. The palace, its gardens and the buildings in the grounds are major visitor attractions. (Wikipedia)

These crosses were erected in memoriam to those who tried to escape unsuccessfully from East Berlin during the Cold War. Unfortunately this memorial was only temporary as there was too much opposition to it being a permanent fixture.

Description
The Prince's Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Prince of Monaco. Built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers. Since the end of the 13th century, it has been the stronghold and home of the Grimaldi family who first captured it in 1297. The Grimaldi ruled the area first as feudal lords, and from the 17th century as sovereign princes, but their power was often derived from fragile agreements with their larger and stronger neighbours.

A run-down apartment building in Prenzlauer Berg, an old working-class area in former East Berlin which is becoming rapidly gentrified. However, in 2008, there were still pockets of old buildings which had yet to be renovated. At first sight, this building looks as if it might be derelict, but notice the man looking out of one of the windows, and the general well-maintained state of the windows, in contrast to the walls.
Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Station), is the main railway station in Berlin, Germany and the largest crossing station in Europe. It began full operation two days after a ceremonial opening on 26 May 2006. It is now Europe's largest two-level railway station. It is located on the site of the historic Lehrter Bahnhof, and until it opened as a main line station, it was a stop on the Berlin S-Bahn suburban railway temporarily named Berlin Hauptbahnhof–Lehrter Bahnhof.

Summer Palace, Potsdam, Berlin, Germany, Sanssouci, rococo, Frederick the Great, King of Prussia,
Description
Sanssouci is the name of the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, in Potsdam, near Berlin. It is often counted among the German rivals of Versailles. While Sanssouci is in the more intimate Rococo style and is far smaller than its French Baroque counterpart, it too is notable for the numerous temples and follies in the park. The palace was designed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff between 1745 and 1747 to fulfill King Frederick's need for a private residence where he could relax away from the pomp and ceremony of the Berlin court. The palace's name emphasises this; it is a French phrase (sans souci), which translates as "without concerns", meaning "without worries" or "carefree", symbolising that the palace was a place for relaxation rather than a seat of power. The palace is little more than a large single-storey villa—more like the Château de Marly than Versailles. Containing just ten principal rooms, it was built on the brow of a terraced hill at the centre of the park. (Wikipedia)
