This tree is one of many that flank the path runing down the valley beside Horner Water. Early morning and low autumn sunshine meant that very little light penetrated to the woodland floor. Where it did it created strong contrast of light and shade.

Barton Wood is the name given to the extensive woodland in the East Lynn Valley, Exmoor. In autumn the sun is low in the sky and very little of it penetrates to the valley floor. Where it does it creates isolated patches of light and shade with long shadows as seen here.
