The tiny tidal island of Oronsay is only accessible from Colonsay for two hours either side of low tide but still well worth the visit. There are few buildings on the island the main ones being Oronsay farm and the Priory. The Augustinian Priory was founded in the 14th Century under the patronage of John 1, Lord of The Isles. There are many carved gravestones which were made on the island and two well preserved crosses this one [the small cross] is situated to the east of the Priory

Oronsay is only accessible from Colonsay two hours either side of low tide across a stretch of beach known as The Strand. Little is known about the priory other than it was an Augustinian community in existence before 1350 and perhaps founded by John of Islay, Lord of The Isles.
