Description
The German ultimatum ordering the Dutch commander of Rotterdam to cease fire was delivered to him at 10:30h on 14 May 1940. At 13:22h, German bombers set the whole inner city of Rotterdam ablaze, killing 814 of its inhabitants. The photo was taken after the removal of all debris.

According to internet information, the ship was launched in 1951 and decommissioned in 1973. There is no further information available, but this is clearly the same ship as pictured in action on an information site on the internet.

1937 Built of steel by Framnæs Mek. Verksted, Sandefjord, for Østlandets Skoleskib, Oslo, to be used as a schoolship for the Norwegian merchant marine. She was rigged as a three-masted full-rigged ship carrying royals over single topgallant sails, and was equipped with an auxiliary engine. Description
A replica of Thomas Cabot's 15th century ship, the Nonsuch, moors beside the ancient quays of Sutton Harbour in Plymouth, Devon, from where 450 years earlier the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America. Facing the Nonsuch are what are called the Mayflower Steps - although the quay on which they stand was not built until 200 years after the pioneering settlers had left.
Originally built in 1958 as a steel hulled fishing vessel, the Mercedes was rebuilt as a commercial passenger carrying sailing ship in 2005 and is available for worldwide charters with accommodation for up to 36 passengers. Displacement is 430 tonnes and overall length is 48.7m.
