The medals of Edward Costello who wrote Adventures of a Soldier in 1852 having served as a Sergeant in the 95th Rifles. After an inspiring career in service including the Peninsula campaigns and Waterloo, Costello was appointed a Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London, a position he held until his death in 1869 at the age of 84. This photograph was taken c1910.

Description
The Prince Consort's Own Rifle Brigade badge, 1899. The Rifle Brigade began as an experimental corps in 1800 becoming The 95th Regiment of Foot, the 95th Rifles in 1802. In 1816 they became The Rifle Brigade and The Prince Consort's Own Rifle Brigade from 1862. In modern times the Rifle Brigade has become amalgamated into the Royal Green Jackets.

Standing Orders of the Second Battalion Rifle Brigade revised by Colonel J.P. Carr Glynn commanding the Battalion August 1880. This copy of the Standing Orders belonged to Sir Anthony Cope of Bramshill, Lt Col Rifle Brigade.

Colonel Sir Alfred Mordaunt Egerton (1843-1908), photographed in 1868 whilst an officer in the Rifle Brigade. He was later to serve with the Royal Horse Guards and was Comptroller of the Household to the Duke of Connaught. Col Egerton married the Hon Mary Ormsby-Gore, daughter of the 2nd Baron of Harlech, in 1878 and they had 4 children. The family lived for some time at The Stud House, Hampton Court. This photograph was taken c1868.

Regulations for the Rifle Corps formed at Blatchinton Barracks under the command of Colonel Mannibgham August 25th 1800 and issued in 1801. This copy of the regulations belonged to Sir Anthony Cope of Bramshill Lt Col Rifle Brigade.

Description
Maj Gen F E Sotheby of the Rifle Brigade c1870. Frederick Edward Sotheby was the only son of Rear Admiral Charles Sotheby of Sewardstone in Essex. Born in 1837 he served with the 2nd Battalion in the Crimea, the Indian Mutiny, China, the Gold Coast and the Ashantee War.Sotheby retired with the honorary rank of Major General in 1887. He died at his estate at Ecton, Northamptonshire in 1909. Ecton Hall is now converted into luxury appartments. Sotheby was the first Chairman of Ecton Parish Council and took his role of public duty very seriously and was a generous benefactor to the village. Frederick Sotheby was a great grandson of the poet William Sotheby. In 1876 he married Edith Marion Macmillan-Scott of Wauchope, there were no children and when his wife died the estate passed to Hubert George Sotheby.
