Description
Suffragette Emily Davison killed herself by running under the hooves of the King's horse, Anmer, at the Epsom Derby of 1913. The incident is seen here in an enlargement of a photo supplied to the book 'The Pageant of the Century', published in 1933, by S&G. The photographer is not credited. There is no information available about who S&G were, but Clarke & Hyde, who supplied other photos for the book, were a press agency at the time. No further information is available about them. This picture is much enlarged from the full, wider, shot which appeared two years later in 'The Story of Twenty-five Years', published to mark the silver jubilee of King George V. We have also submitted that version.
