Scapa Flow, the enclosed area of sea among the Orkney Isles was an important naval base in the two world wars. On Lyrawa Hill on the island of Hoy, which forms the south western edge of the Flow, are the remains of one of the gun emplacements which guarded the fleet. Various buildings of rough concrete blocks with flat roofs surround the concrete pad with large rusty bolts which held the principal arnament. Beyond lies the blue of Scapa Flow and the sunny mainland of Orkney

Description
Bodiam Castle was built in 1385 to defend the river Rother against invasion by the French. 500 plus years later it was still an expected invasion point and in world war 2 a 'pillbox' emplacement with provision for a field gun was built in front of the old castle.
