Description
UK SCOTLAND Edinburgh -- 26 Nov 2010 -- Elena Ratcheva - a Paintings Specialist at Lyon & Turnbull Auctioneers in Edinburgh, Scotland, passes a painting by John Hoyland displayed in the saleroom today (Friday) before it goes under the hammer on 01 Dec 2010. The owner - who wishes to remain anonymous - was given the painting to paint over for his A-Level art studies some two decades ago and decided to keep it instead. "I recieved the canvas as a gift from a friend who knew I was studying A-Level Art and about to commence my final exam. I wanted to attempt a large painting so she thought I could paint over this canvas as it was otherwise going to be destroyed. I decided I rather liked the painting and instead of painting over it, I kept it for twenty years," the owner told Lyon & Turnbull. The auctioneers have valued the painting at GBP 15,000 -- Picture by Jonathan Mitchell | Lightroom Photos
