The Kingshouse Hotel which is on the route of the West Highland Way stands at an elevation of 800 feet near the point where Rannoch Moor, Glen Etive and Glen Coe intersect. The hotel is just over a mile from the slopes of Creag Dhubh and the Glen Coe Mountain Resort at White Corries Ski Centre.

Buachaille Etive Beag has a series of tops along a 1.5 mile ridge running NE to SW. Stob Dubh is highest top and lies above Glen Etive at the SW end of the ridge - hidden from this viewpoint.
